Jeff Crosland, Ph.D.

Taiji Practitioner/Instructor

Dr. Crosland graduated from the University of Washington with a Ph.D. in Chinese Linguistics. He has over ten years of experience in China. Over the past twenty years he has had the good fortune to have worked closely with several accomplished Taiji masters. He currently continues his advancement in the art under the guidance of Master Xie Bingcan-student of Fu Zhongwen and Ma Yueliang.

Through many years of training with masters who have dedicated their lives to the art and through the teaching of others, he has over the years experienced the direct application of Taiji to personal growth and energy balance. Since Dr. Crosland was first introduced to Taiji from a martial arts perspective, he is also well versed in push-hands training and self-defense applications.

One of the primary goals of Taiji training is physical or postural balance. Through the achievement of physical balance, psychological balance, emotional balance, and spiritual focus one is enhanced. In our search for balance, the first and greatest obstacle encountered is tension. Taiji training involves the application of various methods to achieve a release of tension. The release of tension brings calmness, which in turn brings stability and thus a control of one's balance.
